Happy Holidays!

The Winter Solstice is behind us and Christmas week is here. Amidst putting up lights and decorating the tree, be sure to make yourself a nice cup of hot cocoa and cozy up on the couch to watch a holiday themed flick with the family. These next selections offer something for everyone.

No Christmas is complete without the classic favorite A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS (1965). Since it’s primetime debut in 1965, the animated TV special has been aired in the USA every year since. This year you don’t have to wait, as Charlie Brown’s holiday antics will be available here on Film Fresh whenever you want.

Next up is another holiday classic, A CHRISTMAS STORY (1983). Snuggle up with your loved ones and watch as young Ralphie sets out to convince the world that he deserves a Red Ryder BB gun for his gift this year.  Full of hilarity and fun, the film has become a holiday tradition over the past 30 years, and was even selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”

Keep the laughs coming with Will Ferrell in the Christmas comedy ELF (2003). Ferrell stars as an orphan whom Santa accidentally brought back to the North Pole from an orphanage when he was a baby. Raised as an elf, he enters adulthood only to learn of his true origin, thus setting him off on a journey to NYC to find his real father. Co-starring James Caan and Zooey Dechanel, this riotous comedy puts the perfect spin on the holiday season and earned Ferrell a nomination for Best Comedic Performance at the 2004 MTV Movie Awards.

One of the best things about the holiday season is how it brings families together. And in THIS CHRISTMAS (2007), for the first time in years, all the Whitfield kids have come home to spend the holiday with Ma’ Dere and her boyfriend Joe. With each family member arriving with plenty of baggage, secrets are revealed and ties are tested as lights are hung and the tree is trimmed. But in the true Christmas spirit, they join together to rediscover and celebrate the wonderful gift of family. Starring Idris Elba, Regina King, Loretta Devine, and Chris Brown, the film was called “a cut above the stand heartwarming fare that fills theaters this time of year,” by Claudia Puig of USA TODAY.

If all the holiday jingles and joyful spirits are starting to drive you crazy, BLACK CHRISTMAS (2006) may be the perfect mix of blood and mayhem you need to feel sane again. Watch as an deranged killer returns to his childhood home on Christmas Eve to find that it’s been converted into a sorority house. While a winter storm rages, he picks off the sorority girls one by one in this delightfully bloody holiday horror film.

We would like to wish you a very happy holiday and hope these films will bring you some extra cheer this Christmas season. Hit us up on Facebook to let us know what holiday film you like the best!
