Spring Break

Spring break is a time when hard-working (and not so hard-working) students take a much-needed trip away from the worries associated with school. It’s a time when inhibitions are lowered, new friends are made, and mischief is paramount. Get pumped for your upcoming break or reminisce about past debauchery with the following films offered here on Film Fresh.

Jump back a few decades with the 1960 coming of age comedy WHERE THE BOYS ARE starring Connie Francis, Dolores Hart, Paula Prentiss, George Hamilton, Yvette Mimeux, and Jim Hutton. The film was one of the first teen films to explore adolescent sexuality and the changing sexual morals and attitudes among American college youth. Winner of the Laurel awards for Best Comedy of the Year and Best Comedy Actress (Paula Prentiss), the story follows four female students from a Midwestern university who go down to Fort Lauderdale for a fun-filled spring break. Each girl has her own motives while on the trip, but each of them find their beliefs challenged during their week by the sea.

In the late-night comedy MARDI GRAS: SPRING BREAK (2011), three college friends embark on a road trip to Mardi Gras for their senior spring break in search of a booze-fueled sexcapade. Starring Nicholas D’Agosto, Josh Gad, Bret Harrison, Arielle Kebbel and Carmen Elektra, this raunchy hijinks-filled romp is the perfect mix of crass and comedy.

Explore one of the most unconventional annual spring breaks in the U.S. in the documentary DUCK BEACH: MORMON SPRING BREAK. Every year, over a thousand single Mormons converge on the town of Duck Beach, North Carolina where they party without alcohol, go to church on Sundays, and navigate the tricky rules of hooking up while soaking up the sun on the beach. The film follows four hopeful singles as they spend their Memorial Day holiday with their friends and families and explores the complexities and challenges that come along with being a single person of faith in modern America.
