Synopsis:
Ju Dou (Gong) is forced to marry a wealthy silk dyer in 1920s China. The businessman is infertile, but blames Ju Dou for her inability to provide an heir, making her life miserable. When she meets her husband's kind nephew, she begins a dangerous affair with him.
