REEFER MADNESS (1936) Directed by Louis Gasnier |
According to Wikipedia, in 1971, a group of high school stoners in San Raphael, California would gather at the end of each school day -- at 4:20 PM -- to smoke marijuana together. This is the humble origin of the now widespead use of the number 420 as slang for marijuana, and why April 20th is an annual day of celebration for hemp lovers everywhere. This year, to commemorate the date, distributor Walking Shadows is releasing the 75th Anniversary Edition of REEFER MADNESS, the famous 1936 exploitation film (originally titled TELL YOUR CHILDREN) that shows the effect of the drug on innocent high school students, who are driven to rape, manslaughter, suicide and madness by the drug. REEFER MADNESS was a forgotten movie until it was resurrected in the 1970s and given new life as a comedy, entertaining stoned audiences everywhere (even in San Raphael, no doubt). For the next week, Film Fresh will make this title available at a discount for our customers: $6.99 for the download and 10.99 for the DVD. Here are the other titles on sale this week: |
