Pain is universal... but so is hope. From acclaimed Director Alejandro González Iñárritu (AMORES PERROES, 21 GRAMS) comes the third film in his trilogy, Babel, a critically celebrated and emotionally gripping film about the barriers that separate humankind. A tragic accident in Morocco sets off a chain of events that will link four groups of people who, divided by cultural differences and vast distances, will discover a shared destiny that ultimately connects them. Brad Pitt (MR. AND MRS. SMITH, OCEANS 12), Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett (THE AVIATOR, THE LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY) and Gael García Bernal (Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN, THE MOTORCYCLE DIARIES) lead an outstanding international ensemble cast in this breakthrough film.
"Overflowing with memorable acting, unforgettable images, searing tragedy, unexpected humor and an eloquent plea for international understanding. In short, one of the year's best movies." -- Lou Lumenick, NEW YORK POST

While all of the converging story lines in this film are interesting, I was especially drawn to the character Chieko Wataya (Rinko Kikuchi), the strange, deaf-mute teenage girl living in Tokyo. She seems to embody what I believe to be the theme of this movie -- the human failure to communicate among communities large and small, among families and continents. I slowly began to identify with Chieko's strange, rebellious behavior - a strategy for coping with the frustrations of being mute (both literally and figuratively). A wonderful, poetic film.
