In his directorial debut, Peter Bogdanovich weaves two disparate story lines into a terrifying moment of confrontation. In seemingly unrelated events, aging horror film star Orlok (Karloff) announces his retirement, and an apparently average young man (O'Kelly) accumulates an arsenal of rifles and handguns. As the pace quickens, O'Kelly turns into a murderous sniper, showing up at a drive-in theater where Orlok is making his final personal appearance.

This is Bogdanovich's first film after working on Roger Corman's films, and it is great for anyone who loves drive-in theaters or LA. You'll recognize parts of Sunset Blvd, the Valley, and feel pangs of nostalgia for all the drive-ins that have disappeared. The troubled protagonist in his Mustang swinging through LA's freeways with his arsenal is great, and Boris Karloff's character is also a masterpiece. The end is the best part! Fabulous scenes in the drive-in. If you're a film lover, you'll really like this piece from New Hollywood's history.
