INTO THE WILD is inspired by the true story of Christopher McCandless (Hirsch), a young man who abandons his life of comfort to pursue the freedom of life on the road, a quest that leads him to the Alaskan wilderness and the ultimate challenge of his life. Screenplay and directed by Sean Penn and featuring an all-star cast including William Hurt, Marcia Gay Harden, Vince Vaughn, Catherine Keener and Hal Halbrook, INTO THE WILD is "as stirring, entertaining and steadfastly thrilling as it is beautiful." (Joe Morgenstern, The Wall Street Journal)
"These sequences are gorgeously filmed by cinematographer Eric Gautier, and they're heady with the joy of discovery - they make you want to hit the road into the magnificent landscape we forget is out there." -- Ty Burr, THE BOSTON GLOBE

Great character study of interesting, complex people, with wonderful visuals--excellent film. It is especially interesting to contrast this film with Grizzly Man by Werner Herzog, about another real-life Alaska adventurer, and to another road film, Wendy and Lucy by Kelly Reichardt, to see the contrasts of a young woman on the road.
