New and Old Christmas Classics
Submitted Thu, Dec 17, 2009 3:05 by gerryFilm Fresh has a growing collection of Christmas films to get you in the holiday spirit. From heartwarming classics, to animated visual feasts and even cynical modern visions, there’s really something for anyone and everyone.
You can’t get more traditional then Frank Capra’s moving vision of American family in IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE, George Seaton’s Oscar winning MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET and Irving Berlin’s musical WHITE CHRISTMAS
A trio of great animated Christmas films have found their way into our expanding library. They include Chuck Jones’ interpretation of Dr. Seuss’ HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS!, Robert Zemeckis' first foray into motion-capture technology, THE POLAR EXPRESS, and TOKYO GODFATHERS, a film directed by Japanese Anime master Satoshi Kon.
For a more skewed interpretation of Christmas, make sure to give the films BAD SANTA, A CHRISTMAS STORY, FOUR CHRISTMASES and CHRISTMAS WITH THE KRANKS a view this season. How skewed we talking? A boozing, cursing Santa Claus and a father with an unhealthy obsession with a gaudy leg lamp are just a couple of examples.
More modern holiday favorites now available include THE SANTA CLAUSE, starring Tim Allen as a man who unwilling takes on the mantle of Kris Kringle, and THIS CHRISTMAS, featuring the musical talents of Chris Brown.
From our World and Indie sections we offer the French film JOYEUX NOEL, the story of World War I soldiers celebrating Christmas in the trenches, and HOLLYWOOD, JE T'AIME, a film about a gay French man who finds love in Los Angeles while on Christmas holiday.
It's a Christmas tradition to watch some holiday films. Feel free to take to your pick.
