The arthouse horror film ANTICHRIST by Danish film director Lars von Trier polarized viewers in its festival run and currently has a 49% on review aggregate site ROTTEN TOMATOES. However, INDIEWIRE reports that the first showing in New York sold out and the NEW YORKER gave the film a glowing review. Will you make the venture to see this controversial film?
Science fiction fans rejoice! DISTRICT 9 director Neil Blomkamp next project has been given the greenlight. Blomkamp insists that his next film will be "very different from DISTRICT 9," but promises that it will be "totally original" and "very violent." I'm sold. (more)
Quentin Tarantino and the Weinstein Company have already started their Oscar campaign for INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS. Tarantino kicked things off with an apperance at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival where they honored the director with the Kirk Douglas Award. While Christoph Waltz certainly deserves kudos for his performance as German soldier Hans Landa, I am not sure sure the film deserves a Best Picture nod. (more)
SAW VI is released today. It is the sixth film in the SAW franchise, but in Spain it is the first film (that isn't porno) to ever receive an X rating. BOXOFFICE.COM notes that "this might be the best press SAW VI has gotten." (more)
THE NEW YORK TIMES published an interesting piece by critic A.O. Scott about the films of 1962. Scott argues that '62 was a pivotal year for cinema and a year in which "eras collided." (more)
