The French Riviera, two luminous stars and the Master of Suspense, Alfred Hitchcock, behind the camera. They all add up to one romantic, dazzling screen thriller in the Paramount Centennial Collection. Cary Grant plays John Robie, a retired jewel thief once known as "The Cat," who catches the eye of Frances Stevens (played by Grace Kelly), a pampered, vacationing heiress. But when a new rash of gem thiefs occurs amongst the luxury hotel of the spectacular French playground, it appears that "The Cat" is on the prowl once again. Is Robie truly reformed? Or is he deviously using Frances to gain access to the tempting collection of fabulous jewelry belonging to her mother (Landis)? Romantic sparks fly as the suspense builds in this glittering Hitchcock classic that nabbed an Oscar for best cinematography.
"Mr. Hitchcock has gone at this job with an omnivorous eye for catchy details and a dandy John Michael Hayes script." -- Bosley Crowther, THE NEW YORK TIMES

If you want to be sure you're watching a film you'll truly enjoy, To Catch a Thief is perfect. Cary Grant is full of charm (I know, he usually is, but he really is handsome and charming in this one) and Grace Kelly gets a good role. The two of them are gorgeous, their cat and mouse game of falling in love is fun, and the landscape shots of the French Riviera make you feel you've been somewhere. Grant's character was part of the French Resistance during WWII, which puts some interesting history into this film, too.
