The original version of this motion picture was totally different than the version that is currently in release. The characters in the original script had completely different motivations and the original story was clearly a psychological study of a woman twisted by religious extremism. The releasing company has drastically re-edited the film and added scenes that make no sense at all. The result is now a disastrous mess that has no logic or dramatic coherence. They have managed to turn the original hero/protagonist into a demented serial killer without any motivation and inexplicably turned the original villain/antagonist into an imaginary character who doesn't even exist! It's truly a shame to see such great talents as Roy Scheider, Daryl Hannah, Tia Carrere and Lindy Booth treated with such horrible disregard, rendering their performances undecipherable. According to insiders, the film was drastically altered by the releasing company without the approval or consent of the writer/director. He subsequently removed his name from the credits and replaced it with the pseudonym Phillip Leftfield. Good move! I wouldn't want my name associated with this travesty either.
