Restore Stephen Baldwin (.org), Virtual Film Fests, & What Dana Stevens says about J.Lo's latest rom-com
Submitted Fri, Apr 23, 2010 11:26 by marinaA friend emailed me a story this morning along with the message, "This. Is. REAL!"
GAWKER
reported yesterday that Stephen Baldwin is bankrupt and "came up with a
plan to make money that requires no talent or work: It is a website
called restorestephenbaldwin.org."
According
to a video on the website, Baldwin (a born-again Christian) abandoned
Hollywood for his Christian beliefs and has, as a result, lost all of
his savings and been subjected to public mockery. "A simple search
through the internet will reveal that people not only mock Stephen, but
mock God as well," the site claims. "If the people of God come to
together and each give a small donation...we can see a mass restoration
of a public figure and all the glory will go to God." If you want to
help Stephen pay his bills, visit restorestephenbaldwin.org (more).
Following
a trend picked up earlier this year by Sundance, the Tribeca Film
Festival is also going virtual. "TFF Virtual", as the site is called,
was launched today and will continue to provide users with live content
through April 30th, the last day of the festival. "We've created a
schedule that will help you plan your online week so you can feel just
like you are here!" the homepage says. For a fee, you can become a
"Premium User" which will allow you to watch film screenings and Joan
Rivers. And for free, you can plenty of other events, including red
carpet Q&A's (more).
Jennifer Lopez's latest romance comedy is almost agreeable: success!!
I
know I always report on funny things that Dana Stevens writes over at
SLATE, but I can't help myself. In her review of THE BACK-UP PLAN, the
new Jennifer Lopez romance comedy, Stevens claims that she must be
suffering from Romantic-Comedy Stockholm syndrome. "After being
repeatedly brutalized by the cynical, soul-deadening rom-coms of recent
years, perhaps I've begun to identify with my captors and am now
grateful for the smallest scrap they throw me. Formulaic plot? Bland
characters? Sappy ending? Fine. Just don't make me watch Katherine
Heigl have a remote-controlled orgasm in a restaurant." Thus, Stevens
was excited that THE BACK-UP PLAN was neither "reprehensible,
misogynistic, or cynical". And while she wouldn't recommend the film,
she believes that if you were forced to watch it, you wouldn't
necessarily try to kill yourself. Let's all go see it tonight!
