Actress Spotlight: Lena Headey

You may know her as the conniving Queen Cersei in HBO’s GAME OF THRONES, but Lena Headey has worked steadily in both film and television since she first caught the attention of a casting agent when she was 17. The English actress has since taken on a variety of roles from indie comedies to action packed fantasy and sci-fi.

In 2005 Headey starred alongside Heath Ledger and Matt Damon in THE BROTHERS GRIMM. The tale follows the legendary storytellers as they travel through small towns, dazzling them with their imaginative folklore and elaborate illusions, but when they venture into an actual enchanted forest, they find themselves on an adventure of their own.

Headey was no stranger to historical fantasy before her debut on GAME OF THRONES. In 2007, she starred as Queen Gorga in the popular Zack Snyder action film 300. With the menacing Persian army approaching Sparta, Gorga and her husband King Leonidas (Gerald Butler) each must contend with dangers both foreign and domestic in this visual effects laden epic.

Also released in 2007 was the English comedy ST. TRINIAN’S in which Headey played a new English teacher at an anarchic school for uncontrollable girls. When the troublemaking students of the school learn of a plot to close down their beloved home, they come up with a plan to steal a famous painting to sell on the black market. Hijinks and hilarity follow in this continuation to the popular St. Trinian’s franchise.

Based on Cassandra Clare’s bestselling series, THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES (2013) thrusts teenage Clary (Lilly Collins) into a dangerous supernatural world when her mother (Lena Headey) is kidnapped. Upon the discovery that she and her mother are actually shadow hunters, tasked with protecting the world from downworlders such as vampires, werewolves and demons, Clary must team up with a group of other shadow hunters in order to discover her talents and save her mother.
