Terrifically Tribeca

Founded after the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center, the Tribeca Film Festival was the brainchild of Jane Rosenthal, Robert De Niro, and Craig Hatkoff, and celebrates New York City as a major filmmaking center while contributing to the long-term recovery of lower Manhattan. With a mission to enabled the international film community and general public to experience the power of film by redefining the film festival experience, the TFF line-up features independent films including documentaries, narrative features and shorts, as well as a program of family friendly films. In STELLA DAYS (2011), Martin Sheen plays a priest whose love of movies inspires him to open a cinema in an Irish village to raise money for a new church, resulting in a passionate struggle between the priest, the church and the townsfolk. John Anderson of VARIETY said of the film, “Sheen’s first-rate performance and O’Sullivan’s flair for atmosphere could make the film a fave.”

In FOR ELLEN (2012), Paul Dano gives a powerful performance as a burgeoning rock star wrestling with the prospect of losing custody of his young daughter. Jon Heder, Jenna Malone, and Dakota Johnson also star in this film of which led Roger Ebert of the CHICAGO SUN-TIMES to praise Dano for, “This performance, unlike anything Paul Dano has ever done, must have required some courage.”

The comedy-drama COLLABORATOR (2011) follows childhood neighbors Robert (Martin Donovan), a liberal playwright, and Gus (David Morse), a right wing ex-con, who experience an unusual reunion when Gus holds Robert hostage at gunpoint.  The situation leads social status and celebrity to converse with the threat of violence, leaving Robert both shattered and inspired.

Dive into the future of digital cinema with Keanu Reeves in SIDE BY SIDE (2012). The documentary features interviews with cinematic masters such as David Fincher, James Cameron, David Lynch, Martin Scorsese, Steven Soderbergh and more.
